Position Overview

The R&D Intern (Access) will assist in supporting development of medical device products through project work focused on verifying specifications, designs, fixtures, test processes, equipment and helping to ensure the concepts and/or prototypes meet their requirements. Typical job duties might include:

  • R&D engineering project involvement

  • Neurovascular catheters and/or guidewires

  • Engineering design of new device prototypes

  • Capable of meeting project goals with moderate supervision

  • Assist in developing and validating new equipment

  • Developing and automating processes

  • Product testing and test method development

  • Statistical analysis using Excel and/or Minitab software

  • Creating or revising engineering documentation such as procedures, CAD drawings, protocols, or reports

  • Required Qualifications

    • Working toward a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or other related discipline.

    • Knowledge of SolidWorks.

    • Demonstrated experience reading & preparing technical documentation.

    • Computer experience and skills including MS Word, Excel and CAD.

    • Strong analytical capability and organization skills.

    • Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively both in a team environment and autonomously.

    Desired Qualifications

    • Coursework in 2-D/3-D drawings and statistics.

    • Knowledge of medical device materials and processes: adhesives, plastics/polymers, metals, laser-welding, laser-cutting, braiding, and lamination.

    • Creative, inquisitive and demonstrates a strong desire to “build” and “create” (i.e. robotics, mechanical repair, construction).

    • Knowledge of machine shop tooling. Machining experience/able to use equipment to machine R&D prototype fixtures.

    Additional Information

    • The primary work location for this position is Aliso Viejo, CA (company headquarters).

    • This role will be a hybrid position.

    • Relocation may be available for qualified candidates.
